Sustainable Ocean Studies
Inspiring a New Generation of Ocean Advocates
June 28–July 19, 2016
Sustainable Ocean Studies is a three-week blend of field science and adventure in the Gulf of Maine designed to inspire a new generation of ocean advocates.
Offered through a partnership between Waynflete and Chewonki Semester School, SOS is a rigorous and inspiring marine biology summer program focused on promoting ocean health and sustainability. Through field work and engaging interactions with scientists and coastal community members, SOS provides a fun, empowering, and relevant learning experience that cultivates important skills for academic success after high school. The program challenges participants to make full use of creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills while exploring the ecological and cultural sustainability of the Gulf of Maine.
SOS is open to rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders.
There are few places more stunning than coastal Maine in the summer! Participants from across the country live and learn together in a close-knit and supportive community while camping in some of the most beautiful places in the state.
