Current Opportunities
Middle School Dean of Students and Health and Wellness Educator (7/17/24)
Waynflete seeks a passionate and developmentally-informed educator to serve as a full-time Middle School Dean of Students and health and wellness teacher starting in late August. The Dean of Students is a relatively new and vital position at the school, focused on working collaboratively and in partnership with the Middle School Director to design, refine, and nurture a student experience that meets the unique needs and capacities of our students in grades six through eight.
A core component of the position is teaching social and emotional learning classes which we call Health and Wellness Seminar. These weekly, trimester-long classes are focused on skill-building and reflection about one’s experience in middle school. Topics include weekly check-ins, goal-setting for academic and personal well-being, time management, understanding diversity, overcoming stereotypes, and communicating with integrity. Discussions include learning about mindfulness and stress reduction, sleep and nutrition, healthy relationships, sexuality, mental health, and preventing substance abuse, and are guided by the CASEL framework. We offer a comprehensive curriculum map and resources to support the teaching of these classes, and expect this position to be responsible for keeping the curriculum current and based on best practices. There is also the possibility of teaching an Upper School Introduction to Psychology class.
The Dean of Students role is dynamic and offers opportunities to support students in developing their voices and making a positive impact on the life of the Middle School. The role involves helping to plan and convene community events, including weekly assemblies, advising a homeroom of about ten students, and collaborating with teaching colleagues as they support student well-being. Meeting with parents, leading the design and implementation of advising curricula, participating in the division’s wellness team, and working with students to address behavioral concerns are other core duties.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Education, School Counseling, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in middle school health and wellness education
• Proven track record in implementing and managing student support programs.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience with restorative practices and crisis management.

Bus Driver - Trips & Weekends (6/24/24)
Waynflete is seeking a licensed school bus driver beginning with the 2024-2025 school year for approximately 20 to 30 hours per week during the school year — hours fluctuate between busy sports seasons and quieter weeks. Duties include providing transportation for field trips, athletics, and other school-related events; training to be a substitute route driver is possible if desired. Weekend and evening availability is key. The successful candidate must have a flexible schedule, positive attitude, enjoy children, work well in a team setting, and pass a school-required physical. Strong driving experience and a commitment to safety are essential. Commercial driver’s license with P and S endorsements and DOT physical clearance is required.

Director of Family Engagement and Giving (6/18/24)
Waynflete, an independent day school serving 550 students in Portland, ME, is seeking a Director of Family Engagement and Giving to drive donor activity within the school’s parent and grandparent community. The focus of this position will be on fostering lasting relationships, soliciting philanthropic support, and strategically planning for the long-term sustainability of the family giving program. Reporting directly to the Director of Development, this position will work closely with other members of the Waynflete administration to further development-related efforts while acting as a liaison between Waynflete and parents, grandparents, and other family connections to create a successful family-school partnership. This is a year-round position beginning in September with some weekend and after-hours work required.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, & SKILLS

A belief in independent school education, keen understanding of Waynflete’s mission and goals, and the ability to articulate its uniqueness and relevance.

Minimum of 3 years or equivalent experience in fundraising in a mission-driven, nonprofit environment. Bachelor’s degree required.

Manager of Auxiliary Programs (6/18/24)
The Manager of Auxiliary Programs is a full time 12-month position that reports to the Director of Auxiliary Programs. The Manager of Auxiliary Programs will work closely with the Director and Assistant of the department to facilitate all aspects of Waynflete Summer and Afterschool. This role entails supervising staff, managing program logistics, maintaining communication and building relationships with various stakeholders, and ensuring smooth operations for both Afterschool and Waynflete Summer programs.
The position will work primarily at Waynflete’s Spring Street Campus, with occasional time at the Fore River Campus.
Typical school year hours: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday (August-May)
Typical summer hours: 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday (June & July)
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Hire and Manage Afterschool and Waynflete Summer staff:
- Submit bi-weekly payroll
- Design and run staff meetings and trainings
- Manage staff schedules for Afterschool, Full Fun Days, Faculty/ Staff Care Days and 6+ weeks of Waynflete Summer camp.
- Assist the Director with 1:1 meetings and staff evaluations
- Interview, hire, train, coach and supervise staff members

Afterschool Program Development & Management:
- Coordination of resources and logistics
- Assist with DHHS licensing requirement compliance
- Assist with ordering, purchasing, inventory, and budget tracking
- Coordinate all aspects of afterschool activities with the Afterschool team, including attendance tracking, snack purchases/time, homework assistance, indoor and outdoor activities and games and transitions to and from Enrichment Workshops.

Waynflete Summer Program Development & Management:
- Coordination of camp schedules and logistics, space management and planning with facilities and faculty.

- Ensure safety across all programs and two campus locations
- Interview, hire, train and coach Program Directors, Program Assistants and Counselors
- Plan staff training dates and on-boarding in coordination with HR

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation management, or related field preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working with children in a camp or educational setting.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a customer-service mindset.
- Proficiency in using CampBrain software preferred.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certified preferred.

Coach Openings for 2024-2025 (6/10/24)
Waynflete School is looking to fill the following Coaching positions for the 2024-2025 school year.
Fall:
- (2) Middle school soccer coaches: Season begins September 6th, ends November 1st. Practices are Mon/Thu/Fri 2:00-3:30 pm. Weekday Games are at either 3:30 or 4:30 pm. No weekends. Soccer playing and coaching experience preferred.
- Varsity boys soccer assistant coach: Season begins August 19th and concludes in early November. Most practices are 2:30-4:30 or 3:30-5:30 pm. There are some afternoon games at 3:30 pm and some night games.
Winter:
- Varsity Nordic ski head coach: Season begins November 25th and concludes at the end of February. Nordic ski coaching experience required.
- (2) Middle school basketball coaches: Season begins November 4th and concludes February 21st. Practices are Mon/Thu/Fri 2:00-3:30 pm. Weekday Games are at either 3:30 or 4:30 pm. No weekends. Basketball playing and coaching experience preferred.
- Varsity swim assistant coach: Season begins November 18th and concludes at the end of February. Mon/Thu pool times are usually 3:15-4:30. Wednesday pool times are usually 1:30-3:00 pm. Tuesday pool times are usually 2:30-4:00 pm. Weekly Meets can be afternoon or evening. Experience in competitive swimming required.

From homework help to fun physical activities, our program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn, grow, and socialize in a relaxed setting after their school day.
Waynflete’s mission is to engage the imagination and intellect of our students, to guide them toward self-governance and self-knowledge, and to encourage their responsible and caring participation in the world. Our aim is to provide a program that combines security with challenge, playful exploration with rigorous expectation, and range of experience with depth of inquiry.
