Middle School Dean of Students (6/11/25)
Waynflete seeks a passionate and developmentally-informed educator to serve as a part-time Middle School Dean of Students starting in late August. The Dean of Students is a relatively new and vital position at the school, focused on working collaboratively and in partnership with the Middle School Director to design, refine, and nurture a student experience that meets the unique needs and capacities of our students in grades six through eight.
The Dean of Students role is dynamic and offers opportunities to support students in developing their voices and making a positive impact on the life of the Middle School. The role involves helping to plan and convene community events, including weekly assemblies, and collaborating with teaching colleagues as they support student well-being. Meeting with parents, leading the design and implementation of advising curricula, participating in the division’s student support team, and working with students to address behavioral concerns are other core duties.
Qualifications:
- Degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in middle school teaching or administration
- Proven track record in implementing and managing student support programs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with restorative practices and crisis management; training in Responsive Classroom preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and colleagues
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting DEIB within the school community.

Health and Wellness Educator (6/11/25)
Waynflete seeks a passionate and developmentally-informed educator to serve as a health and wellness teacher starting in late August. This individual will teach social and emotional learning classes which we call Health and Wellness Seminar. These weekly classes are focused on skill-building and reflection about one’s experience in middle school.
Topics include goal-setting for academic and personal well-being, foundations for health, substance use prevention, identity and belonging, human growth and sexuality, and nutrition. Curriculum is guided by the CASEL framework. We offer a comprehensive curriculum map and resources to support the teaching of these classes, and expect this position to be responsible for keeping the curriculum current and based on best practices.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Health Education, School Counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in middle school health and wellness education/knowledge and understanding of this developmental stage
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

6-12 Latin Teacher (6/6/25)
Waynflete School seeks a part or full time middle and upper school Latin teacher for a one year position for the 2025-2026 school year. Responsibilities will include teaching in both the middle and upper schools and overseeing co-curricular activities and/or coaching.
Applicants must have specific training and background in all levels of Latin instruction (from 6th grade through upper level electives), however the position is focused primarily on upper school Latin classes, including Latin 2, 3, and electives. Assistant Extended Day Teacher, Lower School (6/6/25)
The Assistant Extended Day Teacher is a part time, 10-month, on-site position that reports to the Manager of Auxiliary Programs for the 2025-2026 school year.
The Waynflete Extended Day Program reflects Waynflete’s mission—to engage the intellect of our students, to guide them toward self-governance, and to encourage their responsible and caring participation in the world. To that end, the Extended Day Program addresses students’ needs at the end of the school day with a variety of activities which include arts and crafts, sports, hands-on science exploration, team building challenges, outdoor play and exploration, walking field trips, STEAM, cooking projects, multi-generational lessons, and giving back to the greater Portland community. From homework help to fun physical activities, the program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn, grow, and socialize in a relaxed setting.
Location: Waynflete School Campus (360 Spring St. Portland, ME, 04102)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Elementary Classroom Teacher for Grades 4-5 (6/3/25)

Middle School Administrative Assistant (6/3/25)
Waynflete seeks a Middle School Administrative Assistant to coordinate the daily operations of the division, providing critical support to the Director as well as to other administrative functions in support of students and faculty in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Assistant also works in conjunction with the School Health and Counseling Team for Middle School student care and will need First Aid and Medication administration training which can be provided by the school. Attendance management is another key aspect of the role. This is a 12-month onsite position beginning in June.
Applicants should have a B.A. degree, strong interpersonal, analytic and organizational skills, demonstrated expertise in written and oral communication and data management, and an appreciation for Waynflete’s particular mission and goals. This position requires a high proficiency with technology and a strong facility for learning new software, managing data systems, and the ability to seamlessly switch between tasks and softwares. Experience in an independent school or other non-profit organization is preferred. Discretion and care in managing confidential information is essential.

Part-time or Full-time English Teacher for Grades 6-8 (5/23/25)
Waynflete seeks an inventive and engaging English teacher to begin in August for the 2025–2026 school year. Responsibilities will include teaching 2-4 classes in the Middle School, and the teacher should anticipate needing to be available for commensurate office hours during the week. The position requires broad knowledge of literature from a range of cultures and periods, along with skill in teaching both critical and creative writing. A strong applicant will have passion for innovation in the classroom, experience with discussion-based learning, and dedication to anti-racist pedagogy. Significant teaching experience, experience in similar school environments, and an advanced degree are preferred but not required.

Math Lab Intern (5/23/25)
Waynflete School seeks a mathematics educator to join our 6-12 faculty beginning in late August for the 2025–2026 school year. This position primarily involves managing and supporting students in our Middle and Upper School Math Labs—a space where students across all levels of math receive individualized support—and may also include supporting mathematics classroom teachers.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain meaningful experience in education, particularly in a student-centered, collaborative school environment. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field, and should demonstrate enthusiasm for working with adolescents and supporting a wide range of learners. Prior teaching experience is not required, but experience in tutoring is a plus.
We seek applicants who are energetic, flexible, and eager to engage with both students and colleagues. A commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute to a diverse learning community are important qualities for this role.

For teaching positions, a bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required; a master’s degree and teaching experience preferred. For administrative staff positions, we look for relevant experience and education for the posted job.
