Instructors
Steve Withers, Math Section Instructor
Steve works in the Mathematics Department at Waynflete, teaching Upper School math classes, as well as the electives Economics & American Capitalism and Personal Finance. Steve also serves as the head coach of the Waynflete Cross Country Team. This is Steve’s twelfth year teaching at Waynflete. Prior to moving to Maine, he taught four years at a public high school in Pennsylvania. In addition to having taught math courses ranging from seventh grade math through Precalculus Accelerated, Steve individually tutors students in various math classes and SAT preparation. He enjoys working with students to strengthen their critical thinking and problem solving skills, improve their mathematical fluency and efficiency, and decrease math anxiety. Outside of school, Steve enjoys spending time with his family and being active outdoors.
Shoshi Gordon, Verbal Section Instructor
Shoshi is an English teacher at Windham High School, where she teaches junior and senior English. She recently graduated from Bowdoin College’s Teacher Scholar Program after completing her student teaching at Casco Bay High School in Portland. Last fall, she worked at Waynflete as an Upper School English Teaching Fellow, where she taught in both ninth-grade and twelfth-grade English classrooms. She has worked in middle and high school ELA classrooms in Maine public schools, as a writing assistant in Bowdoin’s Center for Teaching and Learning, and at The Telling Room, a creative writing nonprofit for youth. She has individually tutored students in various English skills and college essay preparation. Her experiences in traditional and unconventional educational settings allowed her to develop a unique blend of skills that bridge both environments. In her free time, Shoshi is an avid tea drinker, occasional knitter, and lover of stories in all forms.
