Full Fun Days

Lower School students are invited to join Full Fun Days on days when school is closed for school-related events such as teacher professional development and parent conferences. There are four Full Fun Days throughout the school year, and additional full-day programs offered when the school year starts in September and ends in June.

Activities include field trips, active and imaginative group games, craft projects, painting, expeditions to explore nature, and free outdoor play.

Full Fun Days

8:00 a.m.3:15 p.m. Cost: $87 per day

Option for late pickup by 6:00 p.m. Additional fee of $12 for 3:15 to 6:00 p.m.

Note: For students enrolled in Full-Time Afterschool PLUS Full Fun Days:

  • There is no additional fee for extended care until 6:00 p.m.
  • The following Full Fun Days are included : TBD

Program Director, Marlena Faxon, will lead the Sandpiper Full Fun Days, and will be joined by the Afterschool team - Cassie, Cara, Emily, and Tessa.

The Sandpipers Full Fun Days are designed for ages EC3 through grade 1. Marlena Faxon, Sandpipers Director has many fun activities prepared for our youngest campers, including storytelling, games, art and science projects. Please pack a small pillow and a sleeping bag or blanket if your child naps. Grades K-1 will not have rest time, unless by request, and will instead participate in another age appropriate activity.


Field trips will include a nature walk to the western prom and a local playground on Taylor Street. On Thursday and Friday, during EC staggered start, the Full Fun Day students will remain on campus so that students can attend the staggered start.

Owls grades 2-5, may enroll in Full Fun Days this Tuesday and Wednesday, before school starts. Register for Full Fun Days on the website, through your enrichment account. For staffing and planning, registration for next week - and full payment - is due by Friday, August 31.

Program Director Susan Wiemer has a week of fun activities planned to celebrate the last week of summer! Please make sure you have submitted your Waynflete Permission Forms through Veracross.

Field Trips: Owls will take a field trip to Fort Williams Park on Monday, 10AM to 3PM.

On Tuesday, Owls will be on campus, in Sills gym, so that they may attend with their families the Opening Receptions for Lower School.

October 5, 2018

Students in EC through Grade 5 may sign up to attend a Full Fun Day on October 5, 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (with extended care offered until 6:00 p.m.).

The students will enjoy fall-themed activities. The Sandpipers (EC-Grade 1) will visit Deering Oaks playground and then attend a Portland Ovations “Rainbow Fish” puppet show at Merrill Auditorium.

The younger group will return to campus by noon for lunch and a rest. The Owls (Grades 2-5) will pick apples at a local orchard, enjoy a picnic, and will return to campus by 2:00 p.m. to make apple pie. All children bring a lunch and snacks.

October 26, 2018

Sandpipers will be taking a field trip to Broadturn Farm, where they will go on a tour, see all of the animals, and take a short hike in the woods! They will then have lunch and play at a local playground. In the afternoon they will join the Owls for our annual costume parade!

Owls will be traveling to Bradbury Mountain for a hike, and then will go to Fort Williams Park for lunch and fun in the Butterfly Gardens. In the afternoon they will join the Sandpipers for our annual costume parade!

Sandpipers
Drop off - 8:00-8:30 am in the EC classroom
Pick up - 3:15-5:00 pm pick up in the EC classroom, 5:00 - 6:00 pick up at the Klingenstein LS Library.

Schedule of Activities:
9:30 Sandpipers will be departing campus for a field trip to Broadturn Farm, in Scarborough. The group will take a tour of the barn, meet many kinds of animals, and take a guided walk on trails through the woods.

11:30 Lunch and playtime at the Springbrook Sports Complex, in Scarborough.

1:00 Sandpipers will return to campus by 1:00. EC students will have naps. Grades K-1 will not have rest time, unless by request, and will instead participate in an age appropriate activity.

For the remainder of the afternoon, Sandpipers will participate in a Costume Parade as well as various fall-themed crafts.

Owls

9:00 Campers will bus from campus to Bradbury Mountain, where they will hike, or meander, along the trails to the summit for a great view. Summit trails are either a steeper .3 of a mile, or a slow easy 1-mile walk. For more trail information view the Bradbury Mountain website.

11:00 Owls will travel to Fort Williams, where they will have lunch and playtime at the Butterfly Garden.

2:00 Return to campus to march in the Costume Parade and participate in other fall-themed activities and crafts for the remainder of the afternoon.

January 11, 2019: Sandpipers only

The Sandpipers will be going on a trip to SPACE Gallery and the Portland Public Library! Please make sure to pack warm winter gear as they will be walking in the Old Port.

Please drop off your Sandpiper from 8:00-8:30 in the Innovation Lab, which can be found by going down the stairs in the Amphitheater- it is located directly on your left.

Pick up
Please pick up your Sandpiper in the Innovation lab by 3:15. You may purchase coverage until 6:00 for an additional $12. If you are enrolled in the Full Time Afterschool plus Full Fun Days package, there is no additional fee for coverage until 6:00. If you are picking up after 5:00, please go to the Lower School Library.

Molecules and Miniatures!

Sandpipers and Owls will be learning all about molecules, atoms, and other microscopic matter through fun experiments and activities throughout the day. Students will go on a field trip to the Southworth Planetarium, where they will take a tour through the night sky and watch the film "Molecularium".

Sandpipers and Owls will be traveling to Mackworth Island this morning! Students will play on the beach, as well as go for a hike to see the fairy houses. After a picnic lunch, they will return to campus for summer-themed crafts and fun. Swimming will not be permitted.
