Boys soccer completed the regular season with an impressive record of 12-2, the only two losses coming at the hands of top Class B contenders Yarmouth and Greely. The Flyers hosted Lisbon in the Class C quarterfinal and made short work of the Greyhounds 6-0. Waynflete hosted Traip Academy in the semi-finals in a game that was moved to Fitzpatrick Stadium due to a wet field following rain. The Flyers topped the Rangers 2-0 to advance to the Class C South final at Lewiston High School versus familiar foe Maranacook. Waynflete edged the Black Bears 2-0 to capture their second straight southern Maine championship. The Class C state title game featured the Mount View Mustangs and Waynflete Flyers. The Flyers cruised to a 4-0 win and their second consecutive state championship. The 2019 title was Coach Brandon Salway's third in Class C and sixth overall in his 32 years at the helm. Senior Captains Luca Antolini, Oliver Burdick, and Ian McClure-Chute were chosen First Team All Conference as were teammates Joey Ansel-Mullen '21 and Aidan Kieffer '21. Antolini and Ansel-Mullen were chosen by the Maine Soccer Coaches as Southern Maine All-stars and Antolini earned a spot on the All-New England ballot.
Girls soccer completed the regular season with a record of 2-9-3. The Flyers' wins over Fryeburg Academy and an undefeated NYA team earned them enough points to earn the #12 seed in the Class C tournament. The Flyers quickly dispatched the #5 seed Oak Hill 1-0 in the first round. This win earned the Flyers a trip to #4 Maranacook for the quarterfinals. The green and white battled the Black Bears all night but suffered a 1-0 loss to the host. Captains Clara Sandberg and Kilee Sherry, along with sophomore Devan Sherry, were chosen First Team All Conference.
Girls cross-country had a terrific season, earning a fourth place finish at South Regionals and garnering a spot in the Class C state championship meet. Top finishers at Regionals were Blythe Thompson in 10th, Anna Wildes in 14th, and Ellie Simmons in 28th. The Flyers ran well in the Class C state meet and took 6th, led by medalists Anna Wildes in 19th and Blythe Thompson in 25th.
Boys cross-country placed 9th at the Regionals, just missing a chance to compete in the state meet. Top finishers in the Regionals were Levi Lilienthal in 22nd, Connor Feeney in 32nd, and Ethan Armstrong in 42nd. Lilienthal and Feeney earned individual spots in the Class C state meet. Lilienthal placed 28th and Feeney placed 67th.
The golf team won all three of their matches this fall. The Flyers were represented at the Conference championship by George Fahey, Ed Cox, Danny Noone, Henry Kerr, Seth Cloutier, and Oscar Twining. Fahey '22 qualified for the Class C state championship by shooting an 83. At the state match at Natanis, Fahey fired an 83 once again for a sixth-place finish.
Field hockey compiled a record of 1-8-1 this fall, finishing the season on a high note with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Freeport. Captains Charlotte Dean and Lilu McNiff received Leadership awards. Laura Martin '21 received the Coaches Award while Libby Dakers '22 received the Most Improved Award. Coach Stephanie Hogan is excited to have twelve players returning next season.
