Winter 2023–24 Workshops
Registration for Middle School ski trips opened on Monday, November 13 at 6:30 a.m.
Registration for Middle School ski trips will close on Friday, December 15.
Registration for Winter Enrichment Workshops opened on Friday, December 8 at 6:30 a.m.
Weekly workshops provide students in kindergarten through grade 8 specialized after school learning opportunities with experienced instructors and passionate teaching artists, musicians, and professionals from the greater Portland area. Workshops offer in-depth exploration into the arts, dance, drama/acting, science, engineering, electronic music, athletics, card games, and role-play games (RPG) such as Dungeons & Dragons.
- Parent pickup location for all workshop attendees: Thomas House Loop.
- Winter workshops begin the week of January 8.
- All students must be registered to attend an Enrichment workshop. Full up-front payment for workshops is required prior to attendance.
- Workshops are open to Waynflete and non-Waynflete students from the greater Portland area.
- Workshops are offered in three seasons: fall, winter, and spring. Dance is offered in half-year sessions.
- If a workshop is canceled due to low enrollment, we will notify registered families one week before the first class.

Winter 2023–24 Workshops
4–5 SKATING TRIPS TO THOMPSON’S POINT
Students in grades 4–5 may sign up for a six week session of skating trips, running from Wednesday, January 10 through Wednesday, February 14. Students can bring their own skates or use the rentals that are available at the rink. Students should plan to bring skates, gloves/mittens, warm winter clothes (snow pants and jackets), a helmet, a hardy lunch, and a water bottle with them to school. Helmets are strongly encouraged.
Students will eat lunch and have recess at school before the bus departs for Thompson’s Point. All registration packages include bus transportation to and from Waynflete’s main campus. Parents and guardians will be able to pick up their child at 3:30 p.m. in the Thomas House loop.

ENRICHMENT DANCE
K–5 dancers learn to become strong, confident, creative, and expressive through movement exploration. 6–8 dancers will learn dance theory, expand technical skills, explore compositional tools, and help to choreograph dance pieces for performances in May.
K–5 dancers have half-year sessions with performances in December and May. Choreography students have half-year sessions with three performances during the school year in December, February, and May.

STEAM WORKSHOPS (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
Susan Wiemer’s workshops operate at the intersection of science, art, and imaginative play. Throughout the winter, students explore basic physics concepts while utilizing engineering/design methods and discussing the scientific process. There will be a wide variety of projects to build, including flying toys, jointed rubber band puppets, cars, and windmills that power LED lights. Susan’s hands-on STEAM projects engage curious kids! Limited spaces. No experience needed.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS
At its core, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is a game of collaborative storytelling. Players will each take on the role of a unique character in a fantasy story and will need to work as a group—led by a practiced dungeon master—to uncover treasure, solve puzzles, and accomplish their goals. What path students choose is up to them…but know that the D&D world is full of both danger and adventure!

MIDDLE SCHOOL SKI TRIPS — PLEASANT MOUNTAIN
Winter is coming, and with it comes Middle School Wednesday ski trips!
Registration opened Monday, November 13 at 6:30 a.m.
For over 25 years, Waynflete’s Middle School ski program has given Middle School students an opportunity to get outside and build friendships on winter Wednesdays. After dismissal at noon, school buses will transport students to Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton, ME.
Ski packages: Students in grades 6–8 may sign up for a variety of ski packages. In the registration portal, you’ll find various combinations of lift pass, transportation, rentals, and lessons. Helmets are required to ski/ride. All levels welcome. Prices vary depending on the package.
Equipment: Students will bring skis, bags, equipment to school on Wednesday mornings and may store their gear in the shed during school hours. An information letter with more details will be sent out in December.
Parent volunteer chaperones: Trained and mountain-experienced parent volunteers lead and supervise the Middle School ski trips. Lead volunteer and former Ski Patrol Director Shawn Brennan will be returning this season.
Please email to volunteer for some (or all) of the weekly ski trips. Lodge chaperones are needed too! Many thanks to all parents who sign up to provide supervision on our ski bus and at the mountain. Our parent chaperones make these trips possible!
