Students in Grades EC3 through Middle School (ages 3 to 14) may enroll in Waynflete’s Afterschool program. The Afterschool program offers daily activities and care for three age levels:
- Sandpipers for EC3 through Grade 1 (LS Library/K-1 Classroom)
- Owls for Grades 2-5 (Innovation Lab)
- The Hive for Grades 6-8 (Middle School Forum)
Afterschool begins following school dismissal, including early dismissal on Wednesdays. Afterschool teachers, with a high level of teaching experience and/or higher education and training, provide age-appropriate activities, healthy snacks, and a balance of structured art and enrichment projects with unstructured outdoor time and free-choice activities.
The Afterschool program welcomes children from a broad range of backgrounds, accommodates and embraces the diverse physical, intellectual, and emotional needs of the students. Staff members embrace diversity of thinking and the courage required for individual expression.

All Afterschool age divisions are dismissed from the Lower School Kinginstein Library between 5:00 p.m and 6:00 p.m. daily. Please remember that for security, the Orchard Street gate will be open only during Lower School drop off and pick up hours. The gate will be locked after 3:30 p.m. and will remain locked during Afterschool pick up hours. Please use the main Lower School entrance to pick up your child from Afterschool.

From 5:00-6:00 p.m., all Afterschool groups gather in the Lower School Library for pick up.
Full payment is due before the start of each school year or each quarter (see info below for dates). You may pay online with a credit card through your family’s enrichment account.
Afterschool Quarters 2019-2020
To pay by the quarter, full payment is due before the start of each quarter. This is NOT an automatic payment plan; parents must manually register and pay for each quarter before it begins. Quarters are as follows:

Owls: September 5 to Nov 8
Hive: September 3 to Nov 8
Quarter 2 (all ages/divisions):
November 12 to January 24

Full-time Afterschool offers care for students every weekday following school dismissal, including noon dismissal on Wednesdays. Full-time packages may be purchased to include Full Fun Days for Sandpipers and Owls.
For students in Full-Time Afterschool Plus Full Fun Days, the following Full Fun Days are included: October 25, January 17 (Sandpipers only), March 27, and March 30, 2020.
Full Fun Days
Full Fun Days provide full-day care, 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (may be extended to 6:00 p.m.), for students in EC through Grade 5 on days when school is closed due to school events, such as parent conferences and faculty professional development. We offer three Full Fun Days (four for Sandpipers) throughout the school year. Additional full-day programs are offered when school starts in September and ends in June. Full Fun Days may be purchased as part of a Full-time Afterschool package or separately, as needed.
One week prior to the Full Fun Day, a detailed description will be posted on the website. In addition, families of registered participants will receive an emailed Welcome Letter with pertinent information and scheduling details.
Afterschool One-Day and Drop-In Options
Students may enroll in Afterschool one afternoon per week or drop in for one afternoon. A One-Day Drop-In must be purchased and paid for online prior to the day of attendance. For the best value, families may purchase a 10-Day Drop-In Pass (ten drop-ins for the price of nine, cannot be shared between siblings). Since it is possible to sign up for one day of Afterschool per week, many students choose to attend Afterschool on Wednesdays, from noon to 3:30 or 6:00 p.m.
When on campus, students must be supervised by an adult. Afterschool provides supervision for students who are waiting to attend enrichment workshops and/or music lessons, or waiting for a sibling to attend a workshop.

The Afterschool Team is made up of the Enrichment Director and five experienced teachers, who are skilled in classroom management, lesson planning, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) concepts. They communicate and work closely with Lower and Middle School faculty to address individual student needs.
Afterschool Teaching Standards
Afterschool teachers maintain consistency between the Afterschool program and Waynflete’s Lower and Middle School programs, including “Responsive Classroom” teaching priniciples. Students are encouraged to develop and share a point of view, to be risk-takers in an environment that is emotionally and physically safe and nurtures individual expression. The Afterschool Standards inform our approach to human interactions and relationships, programming and activities, program environment, and safety, health and nutrition.
Responsive Classroom and Core Values
Each day, Afterschool students make the transition to out-of-school-time programs through a brief circle time or community meeting to establish the student-teacher connection and provide time for each student to be seen and heard. Daily jobs provide opportunities for students to practice responsibility. Each program creates a charter in which students decide on a few important rules to live by. Waynflete core values are the foundation for Afterschool decision-making and rules: 1) Take care of yourself, 2) Take care of others, 3) Take care of the environment.
Nutritious Daily Snacks
Daily snacks provided in Afterschool are wholesome and nutritious, high in vegetable, fruit, and natural grains content; and low in sugar content. Often, snacks are homemade on campus by the Afterschool teaching team. Afterschool accommodates most medical and allergy restrictions. Our staff is trained to maintain a high standard of allergy awareness and an environment that enables accommodation of various allergies.
The Waynflete Enrichment Department
The Waynflete Enrichment Department oversees the daily Afterschool program, weekly seasonal enrichment workshops, private music instruction, and the Waynflete summer programs. The Enrichment Office aims to provide age-appropriate enrichment opportunities for both Waynflete students and students from the broader community. Our programs intentionally place a focus on social and emotional learning within a safe, nurturing environment where students are encouraged to further develop their unique skills and talents beyond the classroom day. The Enrichment staff gets to know each child well and uses team-building to foster an inclusive community where every voice matters and students can share their unique contributions and points of view.
