Outdoor Experience is an innovative four-day program that begins the school year for Upper School at Waynflete. Students sail, paddle, and hike through some of the most spectacular wilderness areas in northern New England. This program focuses on teaching outdoor skills, building a sense of community, and improving students' self-confidence.

Ninth-grade students participate in a camping and challenge program sponsored by the Chewonki Foundation. Tenth-grade students hike between huts in the White Mountains or on Mount Katahdin. Eleventh-grade students canoe/kayak/sail on various rivers, lakes, and the ocean throughout Maine and New Hampshire or bike in Acadia National Park. Seniors embark on a two-day rafting trip, leaving the remainder of the week for college visiting.
