From Shakespeare to Shakers, Waynflete's educational philosophy encompassing playful exploration and rigorous expectations is supported through an engaging and exciting range of special curriculum programs.

LEAP Week
In the fall, Middle School students undertake a multi-disciplinary study with their advisors involving a special topic. The Sixth Grade learns about the Shaker Community at Sabbathday Lake; the Seventh Grade studies the marine environment; and the Eighth Grade participates in individual and group challenges and activities that highlight the interdependence of the individual and community. LEAP Week includes field trips and group projects that foster a sense of community within each advisor group and grade level.

Drama Day
In May we devote a complete day to drama activities. The Sixth and Seventh Grades attend a performance and workshops by Shakespeare and Company, and the Eighth Grade spends the day rehearsing for their musical.

Poetry Week
A bonanza of poetry activities and projects, April's poetry week features readings by students and published poets.

Conflict Resolution Day
A special Waynflete program, this day in March is designed to help students understand and identify conflicts, and help them acquire the skills for peaceful resolutions. Throughout the afternoon, students and faculty participate together in workshops, activities and listening to guest speakers.

Curriculum Advising Day
In early February, Curriculum Study Day provides each grade with the opportunity to participate in a special curriculum-enriching program. The Sixth Grade takes a field trip to Boston as part of an interdisciplinary study involving history and art; Seventh Grade focuses on community service projects at local Head Start centers; and Eighth Grade explores human rights as an extension of their history and English classes.
